Unbelievable...

This huge HD Trailer of Dead or Alive 4 on the Xbox 360 is amazing.  If this isn't mocked up, the video of the new console will be unbelievable!

PS3 Grill?

Now that's a feature the XBox 360 doesn't have ;)

XBox 360: Liquid Cooled?

I was just watching the video from the OurColony.net site.  It's now official, it is a viral marketing site.  You can now download a cool six-minute video from the team showing off the 360.  Couple things that the video talks about that I think are cool:

  • The three CPU's (and I think the GPU too) are liquid cooled!
  • The back and white buttons are gone, but there are now four shoulder buttons (a la the dual shock).
  • Controllers are wireless out of the box.
  • Everything is XBox Live enabled.
  • New XBox Live Dashboard looks MCE powered.
  • And; the video shows current games being played on potential hardware...implies backwards compatibility.

Guild Wars

After playing this game for three days, I have to say don't bother trying it.  I am an avid MMORPG player and will try most games of this ilk.  Guild Wars has attempted to break the genre by having no monthly fee, opting instead to have expansion packs that they will sell.  The only problem with that model is the game isn't that much fun.  I am apt to re-try it again someday, but until they deal with the following issues, I am not going back:

  • Mysterious disconnects where you lose the last 20-30 minutes of play (including items and experience).  This is unacceptable in an online game and will kill player loyalty faster than almost anything else.
  • Combat is too simplistic and generalized.  Three of any monsters level 3-5 can be beated by a level 6, but four of them completely kill you way too fast.  No clear understanding of how hard monsters are at particular levels.
  • Level 20 Cap is way too low.
  • Crafting system way too primitive.  (You deal with crafters and give them some items you found plus money and he gives you the same armor/weapons that everyone is using).
  • The beginner area is a lot of fun, but after level five or six when you transition to the 'adult' area, it is too hard and not clear what you should be doing.  No good story that I could feel part of.
  • Quests are primitive (FedEx, Kill X of something are most of the quests).  Rarely do you find quests that are not of this ilk.
  • It feels like the focus is to build super characters that *must* fight in groups then do PvP.  Too PvP focused IMHO.
  • Pack and bank space is way too limited. (40 max for a character, and 25 storage that is shared by all characters on an acct.)  Storage isn't available until you leave the beginner area.
  • No way to 'mule' cash across characters.
  • Everything aggros, so it is too hard to create a huge train (30-40 monsters) if you are trying to run from area to area.
  • No way to log out outside a town.  If you log out anywhere, you log back in at a local town.  This is especially bad if I ran 20 minutes to get to a quest then get disconnected.  Frustration shouldn't be part of gameplay.

That's about it.  Avoid it for now.  Play WoW if you want a good game in the genre.

New GamerTag

I begged XBox support and they let me change my obscure gamertag.  For anyone who want to beat up on an old man in Halo 2 (or race an old man in PGR2), send me an invite.  I am now "The ADO Guy"!

PSP Baby!

My wonderful girlfriend got me a PSP for my birthday (she rocks!).  I've been playing a racing game since I got it.  I am trying to convert some MCE video into PSP compatible to see how it converts.  I might have to go out and get the 1 Gig Memory Stick though ;)  I'll blog here when I know how it goes.

With HL2 finished, I finally get to play Halo 2

I am willing to admit my earlier mistake.  It's no Half-Life 2 mind you, but it is a fun ride.  I've been playing Halo 2 a lot the last few days and have been having fun driving the old vehicles.  The Tank Missing acorss the bridge was particularly fun.  Though the fact that my Warthog is now destructible is a little disconcerting.  If you're interesteding in a grudge match, remember my Gamer Tag is now on my site!

XBox Friends on MSN's IM?

I didn't notice this until today, but did you know that if you have MSN IM you can select the XBox tab and view your online XBox Live buddies?  Me either...

Finally! I Finished Half-life 2

This is no April fools joke.  I finally got through Half-life 2...boy, having a job plus other commitments sure digs into my game time these days.  But I will say (no spoilers) that except for a couple of slow sections, the game on the whole was incredible.  It may be the best FPS I've ever played...much better than Doom 3.

Is this the next XBox?

Nope, but fun to see what the community is cooking up as ideas...hopefully Microsoft will be more forthcoming soon.
